Low-Tech Ocean Plastic Recycling and Potential Applications to Boatbuilding

Speaker: Guillaume Pic-Rivière

With some development of open-source finite elements simulation and die design, Low-tech ocean plastic recycling is on the verge of reaching new capabilities, one of them being boat building. It might drastically reduce carbon footprint and investment cost for small boats and small-volume production.

After years of sailing and taking part to all sorts of boat races, Guillaume Pic-Rivière went on to design and build sustainable boats. Young graduate of a French engineering school, he built during his studies a first eco-boat using flax and plywood. Today, in association with Plastic@Bay, he develops low-tech and low-cost recycling solutions to turn sea polluting plastic materials into boats.
